The Department of neurology, Xinqiao hospital, the 3rd Military Medical University, was established in 1964. It was authorized to confer master’s degree in neurology by the state council. Through the construction and development in 40 years, it has become a clinical discipline merging clinical medicine, research and teaching into an organic whole. The Department enjoys great prestige in the army as well as in the country. The Department prides itself in a strong faculty force with middle-aged and young researchers and doctors as the main force and a rational human resources echelon formation and discipline structure.

The main scientific research orientations of the Department are the pathogenesis, prevention and cure of ischemic cerebral vascular disease, senile dementia, the peripheral nervous and muscle disease, psychology stress disorders. The scientific researches are closely integrated with clinical practice, in order to make approach to the pathogenesis of disease and improve the level of clinical diagnosis and treatment. In recent five years, the Department has published 8 monographs and 80 odd academic theses. The Department has been rewarded for the achievements in scientific research and clinical medicine by the army or the province.
