The Ultrasound Department of Xinqiao Hospital, founded in 1980, is one of the pioneers in diagnostic ultrasound in China. She started from amplitude ultrasound (A-mode) in 1960s. Since B-mode ultrasonography was introduced in 1980, she gained rapidly development. She was one of the first ultrasound departments which were authorized to confer master’s degree in 1986. Now, she was the first authorized unit to confer doctor’s degree in Southwest China. In more than 20 year’s development, she had become an integrated department of ultrasound in medicine. The clinical activities cover from all surface ultrasound scanning to various endoluminal imaging, from diagnostic ultrasound to ultrasound guided intervention. Now she has 15 proud medical professionals and 9 postgraduate students. We are also leading the research of long effect ultrasound contrast agent, a high-tech cut-edge promising research, which is supposed to expand much more new fields in both diagnostic and therapeutic ultrasound. Xinqiao Ultrasound, enjoying the cradle of ultrasound in Southwest China, has entered a new era, thanks to the efforts of many doctors.
